Fines & Penalties

The High Pastry Court is empowered to impose penalties for breaches of the Constitution, Club traditions and established rules.

Penalties are recorded as part of the judicial history of the Greggs Friday Breakfast Club and may affect a member’s standing where determined by the Court.

🍰 The Cake Fine

The Cake Fine is the Club’s established traditional penalty.

A Cake Fine may be imposed where a member commits a breach for which the Constitution or the High Pastry Court provides for such a penalty.

The most notable application concerns an unauthorised visit to Greggs on an alternative work day before 11:59:59am, contrary to the Friday Principle.

Where imposed, the offending member is required to provide cake to the Club.

The cake must be supplied. The Court does not accept appeals based upon pastry preference.

⚠️ Cautions

The High Pastry Court may issue a Caution in response to conduct that warrants formal judicial recognition.

A caution forms part of the member’s record and may be taken into account in subsequent proceedings.

A caution does not automatically result in a Pastry Point deduction.

🥐 Pastry Points

The Court may award or deduct Pastry Points in accordance with the established Pastry Point System.

Points form part of the official standing of Club members and may reflect:

  • Attendance
  • Conduct
  • Service to the Club
  • Pastry-related achievements
  • Constitutional breaches
  • Judicial decisions

The current Pastry Point Ledger is maintained separately.

🕊️ Pardons

The High Pastry Court may grant a pardon where circumstances justify clemency.

A pardon may excuse a member from an otherwise applicable consequence of a breach.

The Club’s historical records include formal attendance pardons granted by the Court.

🔄 Redemption

Certain judicial designations may provide a route to redemption.

The Rogue Roll is the established example of such a designation, incorporating a defined period and a redemption provision.

Where redemption is successfully achieved, the Court may formally recognise the member’s restoration of standing.

⚖️ Judicial Authority

The High Pastry Court retains authority to interpret and apply the Constitution and established Club rules when determining an appropriate response to a breach.

Previous judgments may establish precedent for subsequent cases.

All penalties remain subject to the Constitution of the Greggs Friday Breakfast Club.

📜 Constitutional Basis

The authority for the Club’s system of penalties is established by Article VIII — Punishments of the Constitution.

This page records and explains the established penalty system. The Constitution remains the supreme governing authority.
